Fingerprints/Providing fingerprints/biometric data

Fingerprints are taken from all applicants who have turned 6 when applying for a temporary residence permit, a permanent residence permit, a residence permit for EU long-term resident, or a residence card replacement. As of January 1, 2021, this requirement also applies to applications submitted by UK nationals and family members of UK nationals. This is one of the so-called formal requirements — failure to meet it prevents the initiation of the proceedings. Fingerprints are collected during the submission of the application, if you apply in person. If the application is sent by post, you will be required to appear at the post office to provide your fingerprints. Fingerprints are collected using an electronic fingerprint scanner. The collected biometric data are stored on the residence card issued after the residence permit is granted and are used to identify the card holder. Submitting of fingerprints by individuals over the age of 6 is a necessary step for the initiation of proceedings.
