PESEL

PESEL number is an eleven-digit numeric identifier that enables easy identification of the person it is assigned to. PESEL number includes the date of birth, a serial number, gender designation, and a control digit. The PESEL number is commonly used in contacts with various institutions and in legal transactions, such as:
•    all types of official matters, e.g., marriage, change of residence, inheritance or court proceedings;
•    employment purposes, including employment contracts, contracts for specific work, or mandate contracts;
•    customer identification and access to certain public services, such as monthly public transportation tickets;
•    tax declarations for individuals not conducting business activity;
•    financial services, for example, opening a bank account or taking out a loan;
•    starting your own business, e.g., sole proprietorship or civil law partnership;
•    medical care for verifying whether a person has insurance or indicating the PESEL number on a medical leave note;
•    civil-law contracts, for example, buying or selling a car;
