Turkish citizens have special rights to work in the territory of the Republic of Poland. The rules are defined in Decision No. 1/80 of the Association Council of the Republic of Turkey and the EEC of 19 September 1980 on the development of the Association, which was established based on the Agreement establishing an association between the European Economic Community and Turkey, signed in Ankara on 12 September 1963.
Based on the agreement a Turkish citizen:
• after 1 year of legal employment, has the right to renew the work permit with the same employer, provided that the job position is retained,
• after 3 years of legal employment (with priority given to Polish citizens), has the right to work in the same profession for any employer,
• after 4 years of legal employment — may work without a permit.
Regarding family members of Turkish citizens:
• a family member of a Turkish citizen who has been granted permission to join them under family reunification may take up employment after 5 years of legal residence in Poland,
• children of a Turkish citizen who have completed vocational training in Poland — may take up employment after 3 years of legal employment of one of the parents in the territory of Poland.
